Commercial insurance can be frustrating. After my own workers’ compensation experience, it often looked like the easier system to navigate.

In November 2022, I was injured on the job. I lived on two-thirds of my wages and made it approximately three and a half years without accepting a settlement check. I was running on spite, but I was also learning.

The claim became an education

There is a difference between reading about insurance and depending on a system while trying to rebuild your life. My experience forced me to pay attention to the language, the process, and the practical consequences of decisions.

I found that system so repugnant that commercial insurance sometimes felt like a cakewalk by comparison. That is a description of my experience. It is also part of the reason I take explanations seriously now.

People should be able to understand what they are buying, what their coverage does, and which questions still need an answer. A person looking for insurance is often already dealing with enough uncertainty.

Finding a way to work again

I needed work that could be done remotely. I taught myself insurance, became licensed, and started with a field marketing organization. Eventually I cut ties and built an independent business.

I had also spent about five years on Kentucky Medicaid. Coverage transitions were familiar territory from the consumer side. That background gave me a practical interest in how public coverage, commercial health insurance, and Medicare fit into a person’s life.

What the settlement made possible

The workers’ compensation settlement ultimately exceeded $100,000. I reinvested it in my business. It was enough to help turn a long period of survival into something I could build.

My work today includes ACA Qualified Health Plans, Medicare, Medigap, and supplemental products. I charge no consultation or enrollment-assistance fee. I want the first conversation to be an opportunity to understand the problem.

Good representation deserves credit

Stephanie N. Wolfinbarger at Cotton Wolfinbarger & Associates represented me in my Kentucky workers’ compensation matter. The Louisville firm represents injured workers and people with disability claims.

Insurance questions and legal questions can overlap, but they call for the right professional. For Kentucky workers’ compensation legal questions, that firm is a resource I know personally.
